A powerful wave of advocacy, empowerment, and equality swept through the University of Colombo as AIESEC in Colombo Central successfully held SHEvolve 2025, a pioneering youth-led initiative that champions women’s voices and gender inclusivity. The event took place on the 29th of June at the iconic New Arts Theatre, drawing the presence of over 350 passionate delegates, esteemed dignitaries, and distinguished voices from across Sri Lanka.

Gracing the event was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Professor Indika Karunathilake, along with a host of reputed academics, industry leaders, activists, and young changemakers.

The event unfolded with three dynamic panel discussions that sparked engaging conversations and inspired a call to action.

🔴 The Period Advocacy Panel saw prominent figures such as:

Anudi Gunasekara, Miss Sri Lanka 2024 and Founder of the Saheli Foundation,

Shanuki De Alwis, Founder of the Selyn Foundation,

and Dr. Chinthaka Banagala, a leading Obstetrician and Gynaecologist,
shedding light on menstrual health, access, and stigma in Sri Lankan society.

🔴 The Women Empowerment Panel featured:

Deshani Rathnayake, Vice President at First Capital Holdings,

Umali Thilakarathna, an award-winning actress, producer, and media personality,

and Geilee Skandakumar, Founder of the Gender Justice Collective and a UN Women 30 for 2030 awardee,
who emphasized leadership, representation, and breaking glass ceilings.

🔴 The Gender Equality Panel included renowned legal and academic figures:

Mrs. Nirodha Kalasooriya, Senior Lecturer at Sri Lanka Law College and a seasoned legal expert,

Dr. Darshi Thoradeniya, Senior Lecturer at the University of Colombo,

Widya Kumarasinghe, Co-founder of EverystorySL,

and Senuri Rupasinghe, LLB graduate and youth influencer,
collectively calling for inclusive systems and equal rights for all genders.

Following the panels, participants took to the streets in a symbolic solidarity walk from Viharamahadevi Park to the University of Colombo, reinforcing the core message of the event to evolve together toward a just, inclusive, and empowered Sri Lanka.

SHEvolve 2025 was not just an event. It was a movement a youth-led force redefining leadership, amplifying unheard stories, and proving that transformation begins when we dare to speak, walk, and act for change.
